COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou men's and women's swimming teams concluded its regular season with competition at the two-day Tiger Invite, Jan. 29-30, at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The meet was the last tune-up before the 2016 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 16-20, hosted by Mizzou.
Junior Michael Chadwick earned first-place wins in three events during the meet, while sophomore Sharli Brady, freshman Kylie Dahlgren, junior Nick Davis, junior Carter Griffin and redshirt senior Matthew Margritier all claimed two victories.
In distance action Friday afternoon, Davis posted the first of his two wins with a season best time of 15:39.05. Also victorious for the Tigers in the event was sophomore Kira Zubar, who won women's race in 16:34.31.
Chadwick and junior Ellie Suek both notched season bests after notching wins in the 200 IM. Chadwick clocked an NCAA 'B' cut with a winning swim of 1:46.00, ahead of senior Daniel Graviss' season best 1:46.78. Suek won the women's event in 1:59.84, a time that moved her into seventh all-time at Mizzou.
Margritier notched his first victory in the 50 free, where he swam a 19.90, just off his season best of 19.87. Also a winner in the event was senior Anna Patterson, who posted a time of 22.84, while freshman Maddie Gehrke notched an NCAA 'B' time of 22.94 to take second.
In the final event of Friday evening, Brady and Griffin earned wins in the 500 free. Brady swam a 4:46.92, ahead of junior Brittany Hammond's personal best time of 4:50.86. Griffin touched the wall in 4:29.71 for his victory.
Chadwick and freshman Iliana Jones each tallied wins in the 100 breast Saturday morning. Chadwick's time of 54.41 was another NCAA 'B' cut, while Jones swam a 1:04.74 to touch first in the race.
In the 200 back, Griffin notched a season best swim of 1:43.41 to lower his NCAA 'B' time for his second win of the meet. Also a winner in the event was Dahlgren, who nabbed her first of two victories in the event after a best time of 1:58.63.
Two races later, Dahlgren also claimed top honors in the 400 IM after a swim of 4:22.65. On the men's side, sophomore Carter Wallace touched the wall first in a time of 4:03.16.
Junior Andrew Sansoucie won the men's 100 fly after a swim of 47.45, while sophomore Erin Metzger-Seymour, who finished second behind Mizzou post-grad Danielle Barbiea, clocked a season best time of 53.94 in the event.
Chadwick and Margritier took home their final wins of the weekend in the 100 back and 100 free, respectively. Chadwick had a 48.27 and Margritier went a season best 44.91.
Additionally, Brady and Davis earned their final victories with first-place finishes in the 200 fly and 200 free, respectively. Brady's time of 1:55.73 was a season best, while Davis swam a 1:38.45.
Also winners during the meet were senior Michael Rokita (200 breast) junior Katharine Ross (100 back) and sophomore Hannah Stevens (100 free).
