MAUI, Hawaii – Mizzou Tennis finished its third day and final of competition at the Weinman Foundation Invitational in Maui, Hawaii on Thursday. The doubles team of sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) won two doubles matches to highlight the day for the Tigers.
The Brianna Lashway/Cassidy Spearman duo improved to 3-1 in the Invitational with the two victories on Thursday. First, the pair beat Donika Bashota and Lize Leenknecht (Washington State), 7-5, then they defeated Katelyn Jackson and Sarah Dvorak (Texas Tech), 6-4.
In singles play, junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) dropped the first set, 1-6, to Victoria Matejevic (Washington State), then fought back to win the match, snagging the next two sets, 6-4, 6-2. The Tiger junior led team in singles wins over the Invitational, going 3-1 over three days. Sophomore Clare Raley and Brianna Lashway each picked up their second singles wins' of the Invitational. Raley beat Holly Monoham (Washington State), 6-4, 6-1, while Lashway defeated Lynn Kiro (Texas Tech), 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-4.
Next, Mizzou will play its first two matches of the spring season on Saturday, Jan. 23, when it hosts Bradley and SIU Edwardsville at the Mizzou Tennis Center. The matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
