Box Score STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mizzou soccer team posted a 1-1 double-overtime draw against the Mississippi State Bulldogs Sunday afternoon in Starkville, Miss. The Tigers went to 4-3-4 overall and 2-1-1 in Southeastern Conference action, while the Bulldogs went to 3-5-3 and 1-1-2.
Sophomore Savannah Trujillo (Kansas City, Mo.) scored Mizzou's goal, her second consecutive match with a tally and her fourth of the season.
After a 1-1 match after regulation, Mizzou had two prime chances to win the match in the overtime sessions. Only one minute into the first, sophomore Jessica Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.) received the ball at the top of the box with just the keeper to beat. She sent a strong strike toward goal but the Bulldog goalie came off her line to make a body save.
In the 106th minute, junior Lauren Selaiden (Carrollton, Texas) received a pass from Trujillo and drilled a low shot that beat the keeper but bounced off the left post.
Both teams attempted 12 shots in the match, while Mizzou had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Rivers (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made four saves in net.
Trujillo struck early for the second consecutive game with her team leading fourth goal of the year in the 12th minute. After her initial shot was saved, Trujillo easily tapped the rebound to the right side netting and a 1-0 Mizzou lead. The four tallies is a new career high for the sophomore, who recorded three as a freshman last season.
Mississippi State knotted the match at 1-1 in the 39th minute after a corner kick came loose in the box.
Both squads had chances in the second half. The best of the frame came in the 64th minute off the foot of Johnson. The sophomore seemed destined to regain a Mizzou lead when she ran onto a ball in the box but her attempt was inches high and clanged off the crossbar.
Mizzou returns to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 2 for a 6:30 p.m. CT contest against Ole Miss. The match will be broadcast live on SEC Network + and WatchESPN.
