Nebraska Posts 1-0 Win Over @MizzouSoccer in Non-Conference Finale

Mizzou falls to 3-2-3 on the season

COLUMBIA, Mo. – . Nebraska scored the ultimate game-winner in the 88th minute to defeat the Mizzou soccer team 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium in Missouri's non-conference finale. The Tigers fell to 3-2-3 overall and ended the non-conference slate with a 2-2-3 mark. The Huskers improved to 4-2-0 on the year.

Mizzou had advantages of 22-10 in shots and 8-3 in shots on goal but Nebraska proved spoiler with the winner in the closing minutes of regulation.

Husker Jaycie Johnson raced down the left side of the pitch, cut in toward the top of the box and buried an 18-yard attempt past Missouri freshman keeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.) and in the lower left corner of the net.

The Tigers opened the match with offensive pressure on the visitors, unleashing four shots in the opening 12 minutes. Sophomore Savannah Trujillo (Kansas City, Mo.) had the squad's best chance but her header off a cross from redshirt senior Lauren Flynn (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) was saved by the goalie.

Mizzou looked poised to take an advantage in the 35th minute but Nebraska's keeper once again made a glove save on a strike from redshirt junior Jessica Herrman (Raytown, Mo.).

With the match still scoreless in the 81st minute, junior Melanie Donaldson (Florissant, Mo.) played a through ball up to sophomore Jessica Johnson (Los Angeles, Calif.). The sophomore was behind the Husker defense but Nebraska's goalie came off her line and made a body save. The rebound bounced out to sophomore Alli Magaletta (Chesterfield, Mo.) but the ensuing attempt soared wide left of the net.

Another near-chance from Jessica Johnson three minutes later flew wide of the right post.

Mizzou returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 20 when the Tigers host South Carolina at 2 p.m. in a match televised live on ESPNU.
