Incoming Tiger freshman wins event at CCMO
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf incoming freshman Matt Echelmeier closed down a 1-under par round of 212 on Sunday at the Country Club of Missouri, winning the 41st Annual Columbia Golf Championship. Echelmeier shot a 1-over-par round of 73 to keep his distance from the field down the stretch.
Echelmeier edged out Jack Knoesel and Hudson Dubinski in the final round, who both turned in round scores of 214 and 215, respectively. The Columbia, Missouri, native claims the tournament's trophy just one year after his older brother and current Mizzou junior, Matt, was crowned the event's champion.
A former standout golfer at Rock Bridge High School, Echelmeier led the Bruins to a state championship in 2014. He has also been a strong performer on the AJGA circuit, twice finishing in the Top 15 during the 2014 season.
