The freshman made his national championship debut on Friday
EUGENE, Ore. - Freshman John Warren closed out the NCAA Championships for the Tigers on Friday, making his national championship debut in the triple jump. Warren was the seventh Tiger to see action this week at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., and added his own Second Team All-American honor to the list of results for Mizzou, which includes to podium finishes on the women's side.
Warren had an exciting competition from the start, hitting a new PR and the No. 3 mark in Mizzou history on his first attempt - 15.99m (52-5.50). He sat within qualification into the finals until the last round of the preliminary jumps when he dropped back into 11th, just missing on the ninth-place cut-off.
Warren will be one of four Tigers to return to Eugene later this month (June 25-28) for the USATF Junior Championships. He will be joined by fellow-freshmen Avery Carter, Gabi Jacobs, and Karissa Schweizer.
Other results to note from the Tigers this week includes a pair of podium finishes from seniors Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin, who closed their historical collegiate careers on Thursday in the hammer throw and shot put, respectively. Now a nine-time All-American, Peoples' eighth-place finish in the hammer earned her her first All-American honor in the event. Rushin also had a first this week, landing on the podium for the first time in the outdoor shot put after earning two All-American honors in the event during the indoor season.
Other Second Team All-American finishes include senior Katrine Haarklau, who vaulted to a season's best during the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Tx., two weeks ago to qualify on to Eugene. She finished tenth overall in the pole vault field on Thursday with a top bar of 4.20m (13-9.25).
On the men's side, senior Macauley Garton also saw his final competition in the black and gold, placing 11th in the javelin (68.64m / 225-2) on Wednesday. Junior Markesh Woodson also highlighted Wednesday's competition with his 13th place finish in the 100m dash, crossing in 10.18.
Although the Tigers have seen the last of their competitors this week, events at historic Hayward Field will continue on Saturday with the final day of women's events.
