Columbia, Mo.--With a 57-41 senior night win over Arkansas, Mizzou Women's Basketball improved its record to 17-12 overall and 7-9 in the SEC. The seven conference wins is the most the team has had since the 2005-06 season.
The Tigers will enter the postseason riding a four-game winning streak. The four wins are the best regular-season finish for the Tigers since 2003-04 when they closed out the regular season with three consecutive victories.
Mizzou's defensive effort, holding Arkansas to 41 points, was the least amount of points scored by a Mizzou opponent since Dec.7, 2010 against UT-Martin.
Sophomore Sierra Michaelis led the Tigers with her 13th double-digit scoring effort of the season. Michaelis recorded 15 points and seven rebounds, going a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point territory. Jordan Frericks also reached double digits with 10 points and four rebounds in the 16-point victory.
The Tigers controlled the offensive tempo from the start, shooting 35 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line. Mizzou's defense held Arkansas to a first-half shooting percentage of 13.6 percent (3-22), the lowest first-half shooting percentage of a Mizzou opponent this season. At the half, Mizzou led 24-11.
Mizzou extended its 13-point lead in the second half, capitalizing on Arkansas' turnovers and continuing to saw no point production. The Tigers also had one of their better performances from the free-throw line, going 10-10 in the second half and shooting 81 percent overall.
Seniors Morgan Eye and Bree Fowler closed out their Tiger careers at home during Sunday's contest. During their four years at Mizzou, the 2015 senior class put together a 63-59 record, boasting a 44-23 record at home. In their final home appearances, Eye posted six points and one assist, while Fowler recorded six rebounds.
The Tigers return to action at the SEC Tournament in Little Rock, Ark., March 4-8.
