@MIzzouSoccer Comeback Falls Short in 2-1 Loss to LSU

Mizzou fell, 2-1, to LSU in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The Mizzou soccer team staged a comeback but fell short with a 2-1 loss to LSU in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 4 in Orange Beach, Ala. Down 2-0 at the half, sophomore Kaitlyn Clark (Liberty, Mo.) scored in the 59th minute but Missouri could not find the equalizer.

Mizzou fell to 9-5-5 on the season, while LSU improved to 13-4-4 on the year.

Down 2-0 13 minutes into the second half, Clark received the ball in Mizzou's attacking end. The midfielder dribbled around the LSU defense, turned the ball to her right foot and unleashed a screamer into the upper right corner of the net for a 2-1 game. It was Clark's second goal and eighth point of the year.

Less than three minutes later, Clark was alone in the box and took a shot on goal but the LSU defense was there to knock away the potential equalizer before it crossed the goal line.

Missouri kept up its offensive pressure but could not get the ball on net. With just over a minute left on the clock, senior Reagan Russell (Sugar Land, Texas) sent a driven cross in front of the goal. Sophomore Alli Magaletta (Chesterfield, Mo.) dived and got her head on the ball near the far post but her flick flew wide left of the net.

LSU got on the board in the 10th minute of action when Alex Thomas knocked home a rebound off the foot of Debbie Hahn for an early 1-0 edge.

After a number of near misses from Mizzou, LSU's Summer Clarke found Gabriela Maldonado to double LSU's advantage to 2-0 in the 18th minute.

Mizzou outshot LSU 22-14, including an 11-5 edge in the second half. Missouri also had eight corner kicks to LSU's two.

Redshirt sophomore keeper Kristen Rivers (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made three saves in goal.

Mizzou now waits until Monday, Nov. 9 to find out its NCAA Tournament fate.
