Tigers finish in 11th place in a rain-shortened event in South Carolina
KIAWAH, S.C. - Mizzou Men's golf closed out the first half of its regular season by placing 11th out of the 22 teams in the field at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic (Nov. 1-Nov. 2). The Tigers shot a collective 17-over-par during the two-day tournament that was cut short due to wet conditions. Host school Charleston Southern won the tournament with a team score of 10-under-par, followed by Virginia (-5), Duke (-1) and Augusta University (-1).
Leading the Tigers in the event was junior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland), who is becoming a familiar face atop Missouri's finishers. Walker shot two admirable rounds (74-72 -- 146) to finish tied for 29th overall. He rolls into the second half of the season hoping to maintain the momentum he has gathered with his hot play down the stretch.
Following Walker there was a three-way tie for second on the team: junior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandviken, Sweden), sophomore Hayden Buckley (Belden Miss.) and freshman Matt Echelmeier (Columbia Mo.) all shot tournament scores of 6-over-par to finish tied for 53rd at the Kiawah Classic. The steady contributions made by Lilliedahl, Buckley, and Echelmeier have helped the Tigers keep pace with some of the nation's top competition this season.
Rounding out the finishers for the Tigers was redshirt senior Wilson Sundvold (Columbia, Mo.), who scored an 8-over-par to get a share of 63rd overall.
Head coach Mark Leroux's group will be out on the links again from Feb. 20-Feb. 21 at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., hosted by Florida.
