Four Tigers Score in Double Figures, @MizzouHoops Defeats UMES, 73-55

Clark leads Mizzou with 15 points, team hits on 23-of-30 free throws

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Basketball (2-0) used a strong second half to take down Maryland-Eastern Shore, 73-55, on Sunday, Nov. 15, at Mizzou Arena. Junior guard Wes Clark (Detroit, Mich.) contributed a team-high 15 points in the win.

Four different Tigers scored at least 10 points in a balanced attack against the Hawks. Freshman forward Kevin Puryear (Blue Springs, Mo.) notched 13 points for his second consecutive double-digit outing, while freshmen guards Terrence Phillips (Orange County, Calif.) and K.J. Walton (Brownsburg, Ind.) both reached double figures for the first time in their Mizzou careers, as they chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Puryear led the way for Mizzou in the first half, scoring 10 points on 3-for-4 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 mark from the free throw line. Two freebies from Puryear gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the half, 26-20, with 5:53 on the clock, but the Hawks fought back for a 34-32 Mizzou advantage at the break.

With Mizzou on top by one, 42-41, almost midway through the second frame, the Tigers erupted for an 11-0 run to grow their lead to 53-41 with 8:36 remaining. Walton poured in six points during the run, while freshman guard Cullen VanLeer (Pacific, Mo.) hit a three-pointer for the second consecutive game.

Ultimately in the second half, Mizzou outscored UMES 39-23, thanks in part to 10 Hawks turnovers.

Mizzou will be on the road Tuesday, Nov. 17, as the team faces Xavier in Cincinnati. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on Fox Sports 1.

The Tigers return to the Show-Me State for the CBE Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City's Sprint Center, first facing Kansas State on Monday, Nov. 23, (6 p.m.). Mizzou will face either Northwestern or North Carolina in its second game on Tuesday, Nov. 24 (time to be determined). Tickets are still available.
