BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Mizzou Men's Golf finished the shortened Mountaineer Intercollegiate (Oct. 19-20) fifth out of 14 teams that competed at the Pete Dye Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Tigers shot 23-over par in two rounds that they played (302-297--599). Penn State – who entered the tournament ranked 15th nationally – won the title by shooting 9-over. The Nittany Lions were followed by UConn (+19) Mississippi State (+20) and Towson (+22).
Leading the way for Mizzou was Junior Linus Lilliedahl (Sandwiken, Sweden), who shot 5-over to place 15th overall. Lilliedahl started off slow with a first round 78 but then bounced back to card a 71 on the final day. For the second time this season, Lilliedahl was the only Mizzou golfer to shoot a round under par.
Following Lilliedahl was redshirt senior Wilson Sundvold (Columbia, Mo.), who tied for 19th with rounds of 74 and 76 (+6). Sundvold has the second lowest stroke average on the team this year (73.3).
Holding down the third spot among Mizzou's finishers was sophomore Hayden Buckley (Belden Miss.). He shot rounds of 74 and 77 (+7), giving him a share of 23rd place in the overall tournament standings.
Junior Euan Walker (Troon, Scotland) placed fourth among Mizzou's finishers, shooting 8-over (77-75).
Rounding out the Mizzou finishers was Freshman Matt Echelmeier (Columbia, Mo.). Echelmeie shot a total of 10-over for the tournament.
Mizzou wraps up the fall season at the Wendy's Kiawah Classic in South Carolina from Nov. 1–3.
