@MizzouSoccer Erases Early Deficit to Claim 2-1 Win Over Ole Miss

Mizzou improved to 3-1-1 in SEC play

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Goals from redshirt senior Lauren Flynn (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) and redshirt junior Jessica Herrman (Raytown, Mo.) erased an early deficit to give the Mizzou soccer team a 2-1 win over Ole Miss Friday night at Walton Stadium. The Tigers improved to 5-3-4 overall and 3-1-1 in Southeastern Conference play with the win, while the Rebels fell to 8-3-2 and 2-3-0.

Ole Miss took an early 1-0 advantage with a tally in the third minute when CeCe Kizer launched a long-range shot past Mizzou redshirt sophomore keeper Kristen Rivers (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and into the upper right netting.

The Tigers took control of the game in the final 25 minutes of the first half, unleashing four shots on goal.

Herrman broke through in the 39th minute for Mizzou's first goal of the match and a 1-1 contest. After earning a corner kick, senior Macee Blanchard drilled her kick five yards in front of the goal. Herrman got her head on the cross and flicked the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season, while Blanchard tallied her second assist of the year on the play.

Flynn proved hero for the second time this year with the eventual game-winner in the 71st minute of action. Senior Candace Johnson (Dallas, Texas) flicked on a lofted free kick from freshman Natalie McDonough (Dallas, Texas) to Flynn, her buried a left-footed strike into the lower left netting and a 2-1 Mizzou lead. The goal was also Flynn's second of the season, while Johnson and McDonough each recorded their first assists of 2015.

Near chances to extend the Tigers' advantage late in the match were thwarted by diving saves from Ole Miss keeper Marnie Merritt, including a close call from Herrman. The Rebels earned a dangerous free kick with nine seconds remaining in the match but the Mizzou defense held firm to preserve the win.

Rivers made two saves in goal in her third consecutive start.

The Tigers outshot the Rebels 17-7 in the contest, including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.

Mizzou returns to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 9 with a 7 p.m. road match at LSU.
