DES MOINES, Ia. - Mizzou Track & Field closed out one of their busiest weeks of the year on Saturday (April 25), closing out competitions at the Penn Relays (Philadelphia, Penn.), Drake Relays (Des Moines, Ia.), and Triton Invitational (San Diego, Calif.). Among the highlights of the day was the Tigers' second Drake Relays title performance of the weekend, as junior Will Crocker cruised to an exciting win in the men's 1500m run. All in all, the team returns to Columbia with seven personal records (PRs) and four new All-Time Top Ten marks.
Drake Relays
Crocker entered the meet already holding one of the top ten times in Mizzou history for the 1500m run, after he clocked through in 3:43.66 at the Stanford Invitational (April 3-4), good for the No. 4 position in the history books. Although he was just shy of improving upon that time on Saturday with his 3:43.93 finish, Crocker proved why he will be a contender during post-season competition, pacing just off the shoulders of the leaders before swinging out for the lead with a lap to go. Crocker is well-ranked as the championship portion of the season approaches, currently sitting well-within qualification for the NCAA West Preliminary Round with his 18th-place ranking.
Crocker is one of two Tigers to walk away from the weekend's competition with a Drake Relays title, after senior Macauley Garton placed firth in the javelin competition on Friday (April 24) morning with a PR toss of 71.51m (234-7). He was joined in the competition by freshman Alex Pascal, who also notched a new PR en route to a fourth-place finish (64.20m / 210-7).
Also coming away with a pair of exciting performances were the junior Sam Dickerson and senior Courtney Wood, who both paced to fifth-place finish in the men's and women's 3000m steeplechase, respectively. Wood clocked through with a season's best 10:30.81, within ten seconds of her current PR, and No. 2 All-Time mark in Mizzou history (10:21.32).
In the field events, senior Mitch Hatten once again marked in at 2.08m (6-9.75), tying his current outdoor PR to place eighth overall.
