COLUMBIA, Mo. - Freshman Clare Raley was Mizzou's lone bright spot of the afternoon, as her win at No. 6 singles was the team's only point against LSU. The visiting No. 25 Tigers defeated the host Tigers 6-1 Sunday afternoon at Mizzou Tennis Complex.
Raley's win marked her second Southeastern Conference triumph of the 2014-15 season. The two conference singles victories is tops among Mizzou competitors.
Easter Sunday kicked off with doubles play, and each Tiger tandem performed well despite eventual losses. LSU trotted out two nationally ranked duos, and their No. 32 ranked tandem earned a win at court one to open up competition.
After falling behind 4-0 early on at court three, junior Kelli Hine and sophomore Brittany Lashway stormed back with five straight games to take a 5-4 advantage. The visiting Tigers responded though with four straight games of their own, and ultimately took an 8-5 match victory.
The last doubles matchup was cut short due to LSU clinching the team point, but Mizzou duo of sophomore Cassidy Spearman and junior Madison Rhyner were playing the No. 66 ranked tandem well.
The two Tigers programs moved on to singles action next, and LSU once again rode out their respective matches. Court one, two, and three went to LSU and they clinched the overall match.
Mizzou hits the road one final time next weekend to close out their 2014-15 regular season. On Friday, April 10, the Tigers face No. 42 Auburn, and two days later they visit No. 12 Alabama. First serve next weekend is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT) and 1 p.m. (CT), respectively.
