CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - In their last non-conference matchup of the Spring 2015 season, Mizzou tennis claimed a 4-3 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Junior Kelli Hine and sophomore Cassidy Spearman each got back on track Saturday with singles wins, keying the Tigers' exciting team victory.
After pulling ahead 3-1 in the match early-on, the Tigers saw Texas A&M Corpus Christi fight back and tie the match at three apiece. Today's victor came down to the No. 2 singles matchup, and Spearman ultimately prevailed in a close three set contest.
Spearman's thrilling singles victory improved her spring record to 9-2. Hine's win at No. 1 play improved her record to 8-4.
Saturday afternoon started at doubles play, and Mizzou took two-of-three matches to secure the team point. Hine and junior Madison Rhyner were victorious at the No. 2 spot, while sophomores Beatriz Machado Santos and Brittany Lashway clinched the team point with an 8-6 triumph at No. 3 play.
Brittany Lashway also shined in singles play today, earning a straight set victory (6-2, 6-2) at No. 6 action. Lashway is currently riding a three match singles winning streak following her pair of wins this weekend in the state of Texas.
Next time out, the Tigers (8-4) will begin Southeastern Conference (SEC) play at Arkansas on Sunday, March 1. First serve that day between Mizzou and the Razorbacks is set for 12 p.m. (CT).
