Mizzou Head Coach Robin Pingeton
On the Tigers' comeback win...
"I told our girls before the game even started that I thought whoever won the rebounding battle was going to win the game. We stayed on them throughout that first half, we stayed on them at halftime and just kept talking about it. I think the tides changed a little bit once we were able to get a few more rebounds and not give up so many second chance shot opportunities. We got a few extra possessions on the offensive end. I felt like it was going to be a battle on the boards."
On the play of Maddie Stock...
"I think she's just grown up. I really do. All of the experiences that she's had, understanding where we're at as a team and the importance of people stepping up and playing a little bit bigger role and taking some ownership. Even her leadership -- it was late in the game and it was a tie game situation and we left the huddle, and I saw her look at everyone who was on the court and say `We are not going back down. We are not going back down. We're going to take this lead and we're going to maintain this lead.' That's not the Maddie Stock from the past. She's a little bit more reserved, a little bit more quiet. She's really taken some ownership and a leadership role on our team."
On Jordan Frericks and her five consecutive double-doubles...
"Jordan's a beast. I'm so proud of her. She's not feeling well, she's on a "Z-Pak," struggling with some upper respiratory issues and she was just fatigued out there. You could see it in her eyes. But she had good body language and she was trying to fight through it, and I think she knows the value that she brings to our team. It's not always pretty but she continues to stay the course and she's having one heck of a year for us."
On the team bouncing back from the loss against No. 14 Texas A&M...
"I think we've got to be realistic too. I think we played A&M to a very good game. I felt like our effort was there. I thought defensively we did some really good things. You're a couple of baskets away from beating a top-ranked team. I wasn't over the top. Nobody likes to lose by any stretch of the imagination, but there were still things I was proud of. What I was most disappointed about were those five or six turnovers that we just didn't show great poise. You're going to have turnovers against teams like that, certainly, I think we talked about that in the pregame. But the five, six, seven turnovers that were just panicky turnovers. But give our kids just a ton of credit because it's hard to do. When things aren't going your way and you're not winning, and your coach is just saying `Again, again, again. We're going to stay the course. We're going to keep doing things a certain way' and continue to have that buy in and that resiliency, that's not me. That's our players saying `Okay, we're trusting what you're telling us and we're going to keep moving forward.' But I thought our kids really battled back tonight, I was proud of them."
Senior Guard, Morgan Eye
On whether this afternoon's game was a must-win...
"I mean I think we go into every game with the mentality that we want to win. So, to put that kind of pressure on us wouldn't be good either. We talk all the time about not playing puckered up and so I think it was just going in and knowing that we had to bring energy and passion into the game regardless of what is on the front of our opponent's jerseys. So, I think that is kind of the mentality that we took coming into this game. I think we did a really good job coming out with a lot of energy."
On keeping the offense going through Auburn's pressure...
"I think there was a time in the second half where we didn't get to our spots. So, we said hey, we all took a deep breath together and got to our spots. So, that is just we had to remember to do."
On getting so much production from Maddie and the bench...
"It is awesome. Anytime you see your teammates have success, it feels really good. It gets you fired up and Maddie really lit a fire for us in the second half and we just kind of feed off of each other that way."
Junior Guard, Maddie Stock
On her career-high game...
"I think it just comes back to my teammates and in practice and hearing them telling me that they have confidence in me. Seeing them doing great things and the coaches makes me have more confidence on the court knowing that they trust me."
On her scoring from inside the arc...
"Probably just like the pressure on me on the outside of the arc. I am trying to get
away from it so I go to the basket."
On having good offensive production in the second half...
"I think going off of what Mo said, just having poise and staying calm. Kind of like having that mentality that we get the ball, hold it for two seconds and not try to rush anything and staying in our offense."
Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy
On what allowed Missouri to pick up second half offense:
"We allowed
them to get open a few times. You know, with Missouri, all they need is half an inch to be open and make a shot."
On the full-court pressure's effects and Missouri's adjustments:
"It
is what we do and it is who we are. We did a good job. The problem
was getting back sometimes, we were not matching up the way we needed to match
up."
On her assessment of the Gamecocks' shot selection:
"No,
we missed way too many shots. We missed way too many easy shots and way
too many free throws."
