ARLINGTON, Texas - Mizzou tennis kicked off the Spring 2015 season Saturday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center, and claimed a 4-3 victory over host UT-Arlington.
Action began Saturday with doubles action, and the Tigers took home two-of-three matches to claim one team point. After falling in the No. 1 doubles matchup, sophomores Cassidy Spearman and Brittany Lashway rebounded with a 6-2 win over Astrid Gehre and Augustina Serio.
Freshman Clare Raley and junior Madison Rhyner secured the team doubles win after tallying a 6-1 victory against Ekaterina Tugarinova and Jessica Birowski at No. 3 play. The doubles win marked Raley's first ever collegiate victory for the Tigers.
Mizzou and UT-Arlington moved to singles play next and competed in tight contests in all six matchups. Senior Alex Clark got things going for the visiting Tigers, defeating Astrid Gehre by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, Rhyner once again came up big for Mizzou and walked away with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Ekaterina Tugarinova. Spearman closed out the team win Saturday with a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Jessica Birowski.
Mizzou (1-0) is back in action tomorrow morning at TCU. Play kicks off at 10 a.m. (CT) and can be followed along online at TCU.StatBroadcast.com.
