ATHENS, Ga. - The Mizzou gymnastics team improved its opening meet score by 1.325 points as the team posted a 195.225 in a loss at No. 7 Georgia (195.800) Friday night at Stegeman Coliseum. Freshman Shauna Miller claimed her second all-around title in as many meets after tallying a 39.200 on the night.
The Tigers fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in Southeastern Conference competition, while the Gymdogs improved to 1-1 and 1-0.
Missouri's scores of 48.950 on vault and 48.925 on beam were both better event scores than the team recorded all of last season.
The Tigers opened the meet with a team score of 48.650 on bars, highlighted by Miller and senior Becca Johnson's 9.750s. Junior Miranda Eubank and sophomore Sasha Sander were just behind with scores of 9.725 apiece.
A strong second rotation on vault followed, as the squad notched a 48.950, with every gymnast receiving at least a 9.750. Miller led the way with a 9.850 to finish second on the event. Senior Laura Kappler was solid once again with a 9.800, while freshmen Kennedi Harris and Becca Schugel each received a 9.775 and sophomore Angie Kern posted a 9.750.
On floor, Miller earned a second-place finish with a 9.850 to lead the squad a team tally of 48.700 in the third rotation. Harris posted Mizou's second highest score on the event with a 9.800, and Kappler had a 9.725.
The Tigers closed the meet in impressive fashion with a 48.925 to finish the meet with a 195.225. Senior Briana Conkle and Schugel had team best scores of 9.825 to tie for third overall on the event. Kappler concluded her night with a 9.800, followed closely behind by Miller (9.750) and freshman Tia Allbritten (9.725).
Mizzou is next in action on Friday, Jan. 23 in an SEC dual against No. 2 LSU at 7:30 p.m. CT. The meet will the broadcast live on SEC Network + and aired on tape delay on the SEC Network on Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT).
