COLUMBIA, Mo. - The 2014-15 school year at the University of Missouri is only weeks away, and members of the Mizzou wrestling team have continued their summer workouts in preparation for the upcoming season.
In the third edition of "Tiger Style Summer Update", we sat down with redshirt sophomore Matt Lemanowicz and redshirt sophomore Cody Hummer to discuss a variety of Mizzou wrestling topics. Check-in to MUTigers.com for the latest information on all things Mizzou wrestling. Mizzou Athletics: Last year you earned the "strength and conditioning" honors by the coaching staff. What did that mean to you for your coaches and peers to notice your hard work in the weight room?
Matt Lemanowicz: "It meant a lot to get the award because I know some successful people have won it before me. It was also great to know that the coaches have been noticing the hard work I have put in the weight room. It also validated that I was on the correct path in the weight room to achieve my goals for the upcoming season."
MA: What personal and team activities have you guys done this summer in order to prep for the upcoming year?
ML: "We wrestle on the weekdays at open mats so we can work technique, and stay sharp on the mat for the upcoming season. We also have lifts that everyone on the team does to continue to build up strength for next year."
MA: What summer activities have you and the rest of your teammates done so far?
Cody Hummer: "As for summer activities a lot of the guys are working doing an assortment of jobs. A lot of guys do wrestling camps all over the state and even in neighboring states. These camps are mainly for high schoolers but it's always fun to help out the elementary kids as well."
MA: What are you working on the most personally, as you enter your third season with Mizzou wrestling?
CH: "Personally, I've been trying to gain muscle mass so lifting has been a priority for me."
MA: You've been an active member within the Columbia community. What does it mean to give back and be a positive representative of both Mizzou wrestling and Mizzou Athletics?
CH: "Giving back to the community is something I'm always thinking about, especially in Columbia since the Tiger fan base is so large. I'm actually heavily involved with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and we're constantly organizing and planning for what volunteer work were going to do next."
