LYNCHBURG, Va. - Former Mizzou Softball standouts Nicole Hudson and Rhea Taylor have been on Liberty University's campus this past week participating in the USA Softball Women's National Team selection camp. The Tiger duo are part of a group of 24 invitees vying for 17 roster spots, with the WNT roster set to be announced on Sunday, June 22.
Hudson and Taylor were both members of Team USA in 2013 and look to keep a Mizzou presence on the roster for the fourth-consecutive year. Hudson's 2013 selection was her first after finishing her career in the Black & Gold (2010-13) ranking in the school's all-time Top 10 in hits, doubles, home runs, at-bats, runs scored, RBI and walks.
Hudson checked in with MUTigers.com between practices and is determined to make it 2-for-2 in her selection camp career.
"I am so thankful for this opportunity to hopefully continue my softball career with USA Softball," Hudson said. "I have been working very hard to earn a spot on this year's roster. There is more talent at this selection camp than ever before, so I certainly have my work cut out for me. I would love nothing more than to be able to represent the Midwest on the international stage yet again. The thrill of wearing USA across my chest never gets old."
Taylor is a three-time member of Team USA (2011, 2012, 2013), going for fourth selection this summer. She was a three-time All-American for Mizzou (2008, 2010 and 2011), one of just two Tigers to do so in program history.
The selection camp extends into a series of exhibition games played tonight in Lynchburg, in Findlay, Ohio (Tuesday, June 17) and in Purcellville, Va. (Thursday, June 19). More information on those events can be found here.
