Game Notes: Georgia Game Two
Senior Eric Anderson drew a full count walk and reached base safely in the first inning for the 13th time in 20 games.
Anderson slid to the two-hole for Saturday's contest after 20 straight games in the leadoff spot. He went 1-for-4 at the plate, moving his team-leading batting average to .318.
Senior catcher Dylan Kelly roped two opposite field singles in the bottom of the second and seventh respectively. Kelly is batting .571 (4-for-7) so far in the series. He has reached base safely in seven consecutive games.
Sophomore Josh Lester worked a walk on a 14-pitch at bat in the bottom of the fourth frame. The gritty shortstop fouled off 10 pitches before taking his base. Lester added a bunt single in the second, extending his current hitting streak to six games.
Starting pitcher John Miles fanned four over 5.1 innings on the mound, giving up just two earned runs. The Columbia, Mo., native is second on the team in both innings pitched (43.0) and strikeouts (33).
Junior hurler Andrew Schwab inherited a bases loaded jam in the top of the sixth, but got two quick groundouts to limit further damage. Schwab tossed 1.2 effective innings without surrendering a single hit.
Another Tiger reliever Alec Rash struck out the side in the top of the eighth and retired six consecutive batters in two innings on the mound. Rash owns a 0.00 ERA through 6.1 innings in 2014.
Brett Peel returned from a fractured hamate bone and smacked a sharp single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth. It was Peel's first game action since Feb. 15 against McNeese State.
With a two-out walk in the bottom of the eighth, Logan Pearson has now reached base safely in 11 consecutive games. That marks the longest active streak on the team.
Pinch hitter Dillon Everett got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the eighth with a two-out, RBI single down the right field line. Everett is batting over .400 with runners in scoring position this season.
Freshman Ryan Howard grounded into a fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth, scoring a runner from third. Howard's 14 RBI is tied with Kelly for the most on the squad.
