It has been a month so far and workouts have been on point! We've been training hard and working side by side with coach Mack to reach our Personal Records in different areas of strength training. This week we look forward to the WIN Luncheon Banquet and the USA Women's National Tryouts. Carly Kan, Emily Wilson, Whitney Little, and myself (Sarah) will be heading out this Thursday to the National Team tryouts in Colorado. We are looking forward to see what this weekend has in store for all of us, as this wi¬ll be a wonderful opportunity to work with Coach Kiraly at the Olympic Training Center.
Our team has made various strides so far this semester; meanwhile Molly Kreklow has been doing the same. As much as we miss her, she is doing big things in Anaheim, California, training with the US Women's National Team. Molly has said she has been enjoying her time in Cali and that the experience has been very liberating so far this year. She lives in an apartment with five of the girls about two miles from the training facility. The girls train every day during the week with the exception of weekends. A typical day for Molly starts with practice in the morning from 8:30-11:30, lunch from 11:30-12:30, and then some kind of weight lifting or aerobic exercise from 12:30 to 2:00p.m. California offers so many diverse activities that Molly has been able to experience thus far. Molly and her close friend and teammate, Kylin (Munoz of Washington), spend a lot of time in Huntington Beach during the week and weekends relaxing in the 75-degree weather. Within the next couple of weeks, the team will begin its first scrimmages, which Molly is very excited about.
While Molly is off training in California learning the lay of land as a beach bum, Lisa Henning is playing professionally overseas. From the likes of her Instagram feed, she looks like she is having a wonderful time. She is playing professional volleyball in Puerto Rico, home to a large district of international volleyball players. In her free time Lisa has been cruising on boats over the majestic Puerto Rico waters, and lying poolside at a dazzling resort. It's safe to say both girls are seeing the warmth of the sun, while we are experiencing the atypical Missouri winter storms.
We hope that are fellow teammates are having the time of their lives, as we prepare and train every day to make strides. I came across a TV commercial the other day that bared significant relevance to our training this season. I thought I might share it; It said, "You have to fall in love with the process of becoming great." We will make our gains this year by focusing on a right here, right now mentality as we immerse ourselves in the moment and our practice.
