Rio Grande, Puerto Rico - Mizzou Women's Golf closed out play at the 2014 Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday. The Tigers finished 14th overall in the tournament with a score 56-over par. The Tigers were led by Redshirt sophomore Michelle Butler and freshman Jess Meek. The two tied for 34th overall finishing 11-over par.
"Michelle had a very consistent day on the course," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "She hit 15 greens and had tremendous looks for birdies that just came up short. Taylor had another solid round after a bogey, bogey start. We certainly had a chance to catch a couple more teams today but the big numbers got us and kept us from climbing up the leaderboard. Alina had a tough finishing hole but she definitely had her game back on track and I'm sure she will continue to build on that confidence for the next event."
Arkansas maintained the lead throughout three rounds to take home the tournament trophy with a score just 3-over par. GRU Augusta took second overall at 17-over par, while Northwestern rounded out the top three at 22-over par.
Butler shot 3-over par in both the second and third rounds of the tournament to move up the leaderboard into a tie for 34th, while Meek recorded her best performance in round two, a career-best 2-under par. She scored 6-over par in the third round for a final score of 227 in the tournament.
Senior Taylor Gohn closed tournament play just one stroke behind Butler and Meek as she tied for 41st overall. She birdied the 12th hole for a 12-over par final tally.
Sophomore Katherine Helper closed out the tournament 23-over par for a 71st place finish, while junior Alina Rogers scored 32-over par through three rounds. She recorded her best score on the third day of play as she shot just 7-over par.
A total of 15 teams competed in the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, including No. 7-ranked Alabama, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 15 North Carolina State, No. 19 Northwestern, No. 22 Iowa State, and No. 25 Kent State.
