Freshman forward Jakeenan Gant scored his first career points on his first offensive touch of the game, swishing a baseline jump shot with 7:44 left in the first half. He finished with 13 points and two blocks on 4-of-8 shooting from the field.
Senior Keith Shamburger had seven points and three assists while racking up 36 minutes of playing time. He is averaging a team-high 32.9 minutes per game, which currently ranks eighth in the Southeastern Conference.
Shamburger showed off his quick hands against Xavier, snatching a game-high three steals. That is the third time this season he has grabbed at least two steals.
Johnathan Williams, III finished with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds. He has reached double digits in scoring in his last four games and in eight total games on the year.
Williams continued to crash the boards on both sides of the court, grabbing a season-high five offensive rebounds.
The Tigers received a big boost from Williams, III coming out of halftime as the sophomore big man had six points and five rebounds in the first eight minutes of the second half.
For the third time in the past four games, Williams, III attempted double-digits free throws. He shot 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the line on Saturday.
Mizzou's persistent and efficient free throw shooting carried over from their victory over Elon as the team shot 15-of-20 (75 percent) from the stripe against Xavier. Over the past two games, the Tigers are shooting 39-of-50 (78 percent) on free throws.
Coming off a career night against Elon, D'Angelo Allen didn't match that performance but was efficient from the field, making all three of his field goal attempts and both of his two free throw attempts.
