Tigers Take Home Four SDSU Fall Classic Event Titles

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Mizzou tennis closed out their Fall 2014 campaign Sunday at the SDSU Fall Classic and came away with four event titles. Freshman Brianna Lashway, senior Alex Clark, sophomore Brittany Lashway, junior Kelli Hine, and sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos all walked away from The Aztec Tennis Center with championships to their name.

The Tigers claimed two event doubles titles with Clark and Brianna Lashway defeating UTEP's Davina Meza and Duda Santos (8-4) then Hine and Santos defeating Washington's Riko Shimizu and Julija Lukac (8-7, 5).

The Lashway sisters helped win a pair of singles championships, as Brittany Lashway defeated Air Force's Lily Forlini (6-0, 6-1) to win the "Grey" singles bracket and Brianna Lashway defeated Loyola Marymount's Anna Romeka (7-6, 6-2) to win the "Green" singles title.

In the "White" doubles consolation bracket, junior Madison Rhyner and Brittany Lashway defeated UC Irvine's Gala Strong and Jennifer Andra (8-3) to claim third place.

Santos defeated UTEP's Duda Santos (7-6, 6-0) to close out the Tigers' weekend in San Diego.

The Tigers return to action again on Jan. 17 for their Spring 2015 season opener at UT-Arlington. Mizzou's home opener takes place on Jan. 28 with a double header against Northern Iowa and SIUE.
