COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou volleyball will play its final road match of the season at No. 23 Texas A&M on Sunday (Nov. 23) at Reed Arena. The match will air live on the SEC Network at 3 p.m. with Paul Sunderland and Nell Fortner on the call. Texas A&M won the first match between the two teams, 3-1, behind a strong performance from middles Shelby Sullivan and Jazzmin Babers, who finished with a combined 24 kills on .611 hitting. Carly Kan led the Tigers with a double-double, posting 12 kills while collecting 12 digs.
Mizzou's series with Texas A&M dates back to 1981 and obviously the two teams met a lot as members of the Big 12 Conference. A&M won 16 of the first 19 meetings from 1981 until 2003, but since then the series is tied at 10-10 in 20 meetings since 2004. However, A&M has won four of the last five meetings, including three of four since joining the SEC. Mizzou won the last meeting in College Station, a 3-0 sweep last season.
Mizzou's offense continues to show great balance over the last eight matches as at least five players have had five or more kills in seven of those eight matches. In fact, Mizzou had a season-high seven players post five or more kills in a five-set win over Ole Miss last Sunday. Over the last eight matches, Mizzou's top seven attackers are all averaging at least 1.28 kills per set and no more than 2.75 kills per set, showing incredible balance.
Freshman Kasey Reuter is coming off of her best weekend as a Tiger after posting 30 kills on .400 hitting in matches against Georgia and Ole Miss last weekend. Reuter reset career-highs in kills (15), hitting (.609), attempts (37) and digs (12) last weekend and tallied her first career double-double in Sunday's win over Ole Miss. She led the Tigers in kills and points last weekend.
Sophomore All-American Carly Kan tallied her SEC-leading 18th double-double in a four-set loss at LSU Friday night, tallying 13 kills and 12 digs. Heading into Sunday's match, she is now just one double-double shy of tallying the most ever by a Mizzou player in the 25-point set era. 2013 SEC Player of the Year Molly Kreklow currently holds that record with 19 in 2012.
Recapping LSU
Mizzou Volleyball dropped a 3-1 (19-25, 17-25, 25-21, 12-25) match to LSU on Friday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The loss moves head coach Wayne Kreklow's squad to 16-15 overall and 7-9 in Southeastern Conference play on the season. Sophomores Carly Kan and Emily Thater led Mizzou. Kan racked up 13 kills and 12 digs to secure her SEC-leading 18th double-double of the season. Thater added 10 kills and tied her season-best with eight blocks. Defensively, Sarah Meister battled against a talented crop of LSU hitters. The senior libero tallied a career-high 30 digs on Friday.
