Tigers Host Truman State and Missouri Baptist Saturday

COLUMBIA, Mo. - After a successful tournament to open the 2014-15 season last Saturday in Ames, Iowa, Mizzou wrestling begin this season's home slate this Saturday against Truman State and Missouri Baptist. Action is slated for 5 p.m. (CT) and 6:30 p.m. (CT) respectively at the Hearnes Center.

In between the two duals, fans can witness the Tigers receive their 2014 MAC Championship rings. Fans that present a ticket from either Friday, Nov. 14 men's basketball game vs. UMKC or Saturday, Nov. 15 women's basketball game vs. Western Illinois will receive free admission to the wrestling double header.

Another option to receive free admission to Saturday's duals is by presenting two cans of food at the Hearnes Center box office. All proceeds from Saturday evening will benefit the Tiger Pantry.

Series History

Mizzou is 2-0 all-time vs. Truman State. Their last meeting was in the 2011-12 season when the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs, 52-0. Against Missouri Baptist, Mizzou claimed the only all-time meeting between the two schools during the 2002-03 season, 48-0.

What You Need To Know

The Tigers begin their 2014-15 dual schedule tonight with a doubleheader against Truman State and Missouri Baptist. Head coach Brian Smith enters Saturday evening with 199 career wins at Mizzou.

Under Smith, Mizzou wrestling has produced 13 consecutive seasons with a dual record of .500 or better. Beginning with the 2001-02 season, the Tigers have tallied 11 double digit wins seasons and have recorded a season high of 18 wins twice (2001-02 and 2008-09 campaigns).

RS Sr. Alan Waters took home the Nov. 1-9 MAC Wrestler of the Week award, as announced Wednesday by the league office. The Kansas City, Mo. native was honored for his great opening weeks of the 2014-15 season, as he came off a big win over Top-5 wrestler Joey Dance (Virginia Tech) at the 2014 NWCA All-Star Classic and then took home the 125 pound event championship at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Nov. 8.

The honor was the second MAC Wrestler of the Week award of Waters' career and his fifth all-time Wrestler of the Week award (won Big 12 Wrestler of the Week three times).
