Mizzou Falls to Tennessee, 3-0

Oct. 26, 2014

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Mizzou soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to Tennessee Sunday afternoon in road finale in Knoxville, Tenn. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 10-5-3 overall and 5-4-1 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Lady Vols improved to 7-8-1 and 3-6-1.

The Lady Vols nearly got on the board in the second minute after earning a corner kick. The corner resulted in a shot from Amy Neal that senior Taylor Grant kicked out at the goal line. Redshirt senior goalkeeper McKenzie Sauerwein then made a save on a shot from the rebound.

Just four minutes into the second half, Tennessee opened scoring to go up 1-0. A long cross from the right endline flew to the far post, where it was headed into the back of the net by Neal.

The Lady Vols then added tallies in the 56th and 69th minutes as the home team increased its advantage to 3-0. Hannah Wilkinson added their second goal, while Tennessee's final goal of the match came on a breakaway, where Christine Creighton dribbled into the box and beat Sauerwein for the tally.

In the 74th minute, a long free kick seemed ready to give the Tigers their first goal of the game. Stationed five yards past midfield, junior Macee Blanchard lofted a free kick toward net that would have dipped into the goal if the Tennessee keeper did not tip the ball over the crossbar. Senior Kaysie Clark got a shot off on the ensuing corner but the attempt was easily saved.

Nine minutes later, freshman Savannah Trujillo attempted to head in a cross to the far post from freshman Jessica Johnson, but Trujillo's header flew into the side netting.

Missouri closes out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 30 in an 8 p.m. home contest against Arkansas on SEC Network.
