Brianna Lashway Advances To Singles Finals At Hoosier Classic

Oct. 25, 2014

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Mizzou tennis freshman Brianna Lashway advanced to Sunday's Hoosier Classic singles final, after defeating Cincinnati's Natalia Abdalla (6-2, 6-4) Saturday afternoon at the Indiana Tennis Center.

Lashway also picked up a doubles win for the Tigers with partner Beatriz Machado Santos, as the tandem defeated Indiana's Kim Schmider and Sarah Baron (8-5). The duo's win came after the original pairing of Santos and sophomore Cassidy Spearman had to split up due to an injury suffered by Spearman earlier in the day.

Before the doubles switch, Santos and Spearman competed in one doubles match and defeated Western Michigan's Tracy Kuhle and Barbare Eristavi (8-3).

Also in singles play, Santos fell to Cincinnati's Kelly Poggensee-Wei (6-2, 6-1) in the consolation bracket, while Spearman fell to DePaul's Ana Vladutu (5-4) before dropping out due to her injury.

The 2014 Hoosier Classic concludes Sunday morning in Bloomington, Ind. The final round of singles play begins promptly at 9:30 a.m, with Lashway squaring up against Indiana's Mary Beth King.
