BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - At day one of the 2014 Hoosier Classic, Mizzou tennis racked up three wins on the day including two in singles and one in doubles play. Sophomore Cassidy Spearman led the Tigers success, winning one match apiece in her singles and doubles matches at the Indiana Tennis Center.
Spearman kicked things off Friday afternoon with a singles win against Western Michigan's Barbare Eristavi (6-1, 6-1). Shortly after, freshman Brianna Lashway followed with a victory of her own over Western Michigan's Labina Petrovska (6-0, 6-4).
Sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos fell to DePaul's Patricia Lancranjan (4-6, 6-4, 10-2) to close out Mizzou's first round in the singles main draw.
In the 14 team doubles main draw, Spearman and Santos racked up a convincing win over Cincinnati's Samantha Perry and Hannah Wille (8-0).
Immediately following their round one win, Spearman and Santos squared up against DePaul's duo of Ana Vladutu and Patricia Lancranjan. The Tigers tandem fought until the end, but ultimately dropped the match to the Blue Demons pairing (8-6).
Participants from the seven teams continue play Saturday morning in Bloomington, Ind. Third round of doubles play begins at 10 a.m. while second round of the singles main draw is set for a 11:15 a.m. start.
