Tigers Lead the Way at Johnie Imes

Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Women's Golf is holding onto a three-stroke lead after two rounds of play at the Johnie Imes Invitational. The Tigers finished the day 14-under par (282-280--562) to surpass Kansas State who is currently in second with a score 11-under par. FIU rounds out the top three teams at the tournament, sitting 4-under par. Missouri's first and second round scores also mark tournament records as Oklahoma State held the previous record for the top team 18-hole score (284).

Senior Alina Rogers leads the Tigers and the tournament field after two rounds; she is in first place overall as she shot 7-under par on the day (69-68--137). Senior Laura Kraft is also holding strong as a member of the top five. Tied for fourth overall, Kraft finished the day 4-under par.

Three more Tigers sit among the top 20 overall as freshman Clara Young closed the day at even par to tie for 13th overall while both Kat Hepler and Jess Meek sit 2-over par to tie for 18th.

Playing as an individual, redshirt junior Michelle Butler battled illness on the course, but she was able to finish the first round of play with a score 2-under par. Also playing individually, Haelena Schwemmer sits in a tie for 54th overall with a score just 10-over par.

The Seventh Annual Johnie Imes Invitational will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 30. The tournament field consists of 14 other teams, all playing the 7,221-yard, Par 72 course located on East Broadway in Columbia. The third round of play will take place on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring for the tournament will be provided through BirdieFire and can be found here.

The 2014 tournament field consists of 15 teams total, including Bradley, Coastal Carolina, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida International, Illinois State, Kansas State, Middle Tennessee State, Mizzou, Oklahoma City, Redlands Community College, Southern Illinois, South Florida, UALR, UMKC and Wichita State.
