Mizzou Invite Day Three Results
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Winning 22-of-33 matches this weekend, Mizzou tennis wrapped up an outstanding 2014 Mizzou Invite Sunday afternoon at The Plaza Tennis Center. Following the tournament, all six Tigers were included in the weekend's winners circle.Sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos earned top honors at No. 2 singles, senior Alex Clark was tabbed as the top No. 3 singles player and sophomore Cassidy Spearman won No. 5 singles. In doubles play, junior Kelli Hine and sophomore Brittany Lashway won at No. 2 while freshman Brianna Lashway and Clark were tabbed the top No. 3 duo.
Leading off in doubles play against Mississippi State, the Tigers swept all three matches against their fellow SEC opponent. Spearman and Santos cruised to an 8-1 victory, while Clark and Brianna Lashway concluded their strong weekend as a duo, defeating the Bulldogs 8-1. For the Mizzou Invite, Clark and Brianna Lashway finished a Mizzou best 4-1 in doubles play.
Hine and Brittany Lashway capped off the sweep vs. Mississippi State, claiming an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 spot.
Mizzou closed out the weekend's action against Columbia University in singles play. Santos started things off with a victory at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), which capped a perfect 3-0 mark in singles play at the Mizzou Invite. The Lashway sisters followed up with a pair of victories, as Brittany won at No. 5 (6-3, 6-4) and Brianna tallied a win at No. 6 (7-6 (3), 6-2). In her first collegiate action, Brianna Lashway finished with a combined 6-2 record.
Spearman also finished with an unblemished 3-0 singles record at the Mizzou Invite after winning at the No. 4 spot (5-7, 6-1, 7-5). Clark rounded out the Tigers fantastic Mizzou Invite finale with an exciting victory at No. 3 (5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-2).
The Tigers continue Fall 2014 play Oct. 10 - Oct. 12 at the UGA Invite in Athens, Ga.
