Mizzou kicked things off Friday morning with doubles against Columbia. At No. 1 play, sophomores Beatriz Machado Santos and Cassidy Spearman tallied an 8-6 win, while senior Alex Clark and freshman Brianna Lashway cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 3 play. The last match of 9:00 a.m. play came at No. 2 doubles with junior Kelli Hine and sophomore Brittany Lashway. In a back and forth battle, the Tigers duo came away with an exciting 8-7 (6) win to sweep the round against the Lions.
Next up for the Tigers came a second round of doubles play against SEC foe Mississippi State. With the same pairings as round one, Mizzou were led by Clark and Brianna Lashway after the duo tallied another 8-3 win. Hine and Brittany Lashway were once again in a close battle, but fell this time 8-7 (7) to the Bulldogs.
Mizzou ended Friday with singles against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Tigers reeled off three consecutive victories to start the matchup. Santos prevailed in No. 2 play (6-3, 6-3), Spearman cruised to a victory at No. 5 (6-2, 6-1), while Clark proved to be too much at No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-0).
The 2014 Mizzou Invite continues play Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. The Tigers square off against Nebraska in doubles play to begin their day, and will play Columbia in doubles at 10:30 a.m. Saturday's action is capped off at 1:30 p.m. with singles action against Mississippi State.
