Dawei Shen will join the team as a volunteer assistant coach in 2014.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow has announced the addition of 11-year coaching veteran Dawei Shen as the program's new volunteer assistant coach. Shen joins the Tigers for the 2014 season after a standout career as both a player and a coach in China.

"We are extremely excited to add Dawei to our family here at Mizzou," Kreklow said. "His addition gives our players another great teacher in the gym every day. He was a member of the Chinese National team and we now have three assistant coaches who have played with a national team. Our focus has always been on letting our kids learn from the best and Dawei completes what is a very decorated, respected and experienced coaching staff here at Mizzou."

As a coach, Shen built up an impressive résumé on the club scene in China and developed into one of the most well-respected coaches in the country. He served as an assistant coach to former US Women's National Team head coach Lang Ping and the two won a national Championship with EVERGRANDE Volleyball Club. He also led the China Sichuan Men's Volleyball club to a National Championship as an assistant coach.

Shen was a member of the Chinese National Team in 1997 and 1999 and was named the top middle blocker in China during the 1997 season. He spent 18 years as a player in China and won three National Championships with the China National Volleyball League from 1997-99. His club team in 1999 also took home the Asian Club Championship.
