FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Six Tigers rounded out day two of the NCAA West Preliminaries on Friday, as Mizzou prepares for the final day of qualification opportunities for the NCAA Championships.

The throws started off the day, with juniors Kearsten Peoples and Jill Rushin back in the ring for the discus, finishing 23rd and 35th, respectively.  The pair already qualified for the NCAA Championship finals on Thursday evening, placing third and sixth in the shot put competition to advance to Eugene.

Junior Brian Duncan also took to the cage on Friday, finishing in 30th for the hammer throw.  On the track, sophomore Markesh Woodson finished in 20th for the NCAA semi-finals in the 100-meter dash.

Sophomore Sam Dickerson and junior Courtney Wood closed out the evening for the black and gold with the men's and women's 3000-meter Steeplechase.  The pair has had an exciting year in the event, each earning new PR's to move up in the Mizzou history books.

Dickerson kicked off his season at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he defended his title and meet record with a new best of 8:51.74 to move into the No. 5 spot on the All-Time Top Ten list.  He closed out his season under the lights Friday night in 34th.

Wood also notched her first career-best of the season in Tuscaloosa, running 10:28.20 to take over as the second-fastest female Steeplechase athlete in Mizzou history.  She bumped that time down another few seconds at the SEC Championships two weeks ago, finishing fourth in 10:21.32.  She fought hard with the front pack of the second heat on Friday, ending up in 20th overall with a final time of 10:25.79.

Events at John McDonnell Field will close out on Saturday with sophomore Tony Carodine and junior Jonathan Ilori in the triple jump; senior Morgan Whitson, and juniors Camille Hayes and Shinelle Proctor in the high jump; and freshman Tyler Schneider in the 5000-meter run.  All six will hope to add their name to the list of seven Mizzou qualifiers for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., in two weeks.

Macauley Garton (javelin)
Heather Green (pole vault)
