LEXINGTON, Ky. -  It was a chilly Thursday in Lexington as the Tigers kicked off the four-day Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships.  The junior foursome of Morgan Whitson, Ser Whitaker, Kearsten Peoples, and Camille Hackamack got events going for the Tigers with the start of the combined events and the women's hammer throw.

First up on the docket was Whitson and the first four events of her seven-event heptathlon competition.  Whitson closed the day in tenth and will pick up again with her final three events on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Whitaker also saw the first half of his two-day competition, taking to the track for the first five of his ten events in the decathlon.  He closed the day with one event PR out of the high jump, where he finished fifth in the field with a top bar of 1.93m (6-4).  Whitaker will enter the second day of competition in fifth and will get Friday's events going at noon ET.

Peoples took to the ring for her first of three events, taking sixth in the women's hammer to notch a few points for the Tigers' tally.  She will have Friday off before returning to the competition on Saturday in the shot put.

Friday will also see the start of running events with preliminary rounds of the 800-meter run, 200-meter dash, and 400-meter hurdles.  The women's 800-meter run will feature senior Alison Ross and junior Landon Wachter, whose last appearance earned her a new PR of 2:08.29 in the event.

Sophomore Drake Stuedemann will also make his first appearance since he ran a PR in the 400-meter hurdles at the Tom Botts Invitational.  He currently sits at No. 9 on Mizzou's All-Time Top Ten list for the event.

The sole final for the evening will be the 10,000-meter run, where a pair of All-Time Top Ten members will hit the line with freshman Kaitlyn Fischer and senior Hayden Legg.  Fischer ran her first and only 10,000-meter run this season at the Stanford Invitational, crossing in 34:08.50 to land at No. 3 in Mizzou history.  Legg currently owns the No. 9 spot on the men's list with his 2013 PR of 29:42.49.  He will be joined in the competition by freshman Drew White.
