COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tigers' final regular season weekend on the road continued Friday as the teams took on the three top meets of the weekend with the Drake Relays (Des Moines, Ia.), Penn Relays (Philadelphia, Penn.) and the Triton Invitational (San Diego, Calif.). Between the two Relays alone, half of the top-25 teams in the NCAA are hitting the track this weekend, including the Mizzou women, who were put at No. 23 in the April 22nd release.
The weekend kicked off at Emporia State on Wednesday, with the women's second Missouri School Record performance of the season. Junior Kearsten Peoples out-threw her own record in the discus, winning the event with a best toss of 57.31m (188-0.5). Junior Jill Rushin and senior Katie Evans also earned new personal records (PR's) in the event to place second and third, respectively.
The trio rounded out the meet with another 1-2-3 finish, this time in the shot put, before departing for San Diego, Calif., and the USD Triton Invitational. Their events there started Friday with the hammer and discus, and will continue into Saturday with the shot put.
On the east coast were some of the men from the sprints and horizontal jumps group at the Penn Relays. The sole individual competitor of the day was sophomore Markesh Woodson, who took to the blocks for the first time this season in the 100-meter dash. He finished 11th in the preliminary round with a final time of 10.69, qualifying for the finals on Saturday.
Rounding out the day's performances was the group at the Drake Relays, which saw six top ten finishes in the elite fields. Included among those was senior Shinelle Proctor, who placed fourth in the women's high jump with a final bar of 1.76m (5-9.25), a mere half-inch off of her current PR.
The men's and women's 4x800-meter relay teams were the only competitors on the track in Des Moines on Friday. The women placed third overall in 8:45.14 with senior Alison Ross, junior Landon Wachter, and freshmen Kayla Wolf and Teylar Adelsberger.
The men's team placed eighth in 7:38.93 with senior Jon Hughes as the anchor leg and the remaining three spots filled by true freshmen, T.J. Carey, Cody Johnson, and Cain Winebrenner.
Events will continue at all three meets on Saturday. For the latest on your Tigers, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
