BOISE, Idaho - The Mizzou track and field program competed day one at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships Friday night (March 9) at Boise State and Tiger middle distance standout Ricky West qualified for the 800m run Championship race, which is scheduled for Saturday at 8:35 p.m. (CT). West took seventh overall in the preliminary heat with a time of 1:49.01.
West has guaranteed himself a first-team USTFCCCA All-America honor with the seventh place finish. He is one of only two Big 12 athletes to qualify for the final, joining Baylor's Patrick Schoenball. He will be the Tigers' best finisher at the NCAA Championships since Derrick Peterson finished second at the 200 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Also competing for the Tigers on Friday was long jumper Malcolm Pennix who took 12th in the long jump at 7.23m (23-8 ¾). With the 12th-place nod, Pennix is a second team All-American and the Tigers' first All-American in long jump since 1985 when Yussuf Alli took third at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
