COLUMBIA, Mo. - No. 16 Mizzou soccer team suffered a close 2-1 loss to Arkansas Friday evening at Walton Stadium. The Tigers fell to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in Southeastern Conference action, while the Razorbacks improved to 8-8-1 and 5-5-1.

"Arkansas deserved the win as they out competed us all night," Head Coach Bryan Blitz said. "This is very unlike our Mizzou team but I am confident we will bounce back and compete for our seniors on Sunday."

Sophomore Abi Raymer gave the Tigers a 1-0 advantage in the 28th minute. Senior Haley Krentz played a ball back to Raymer, who unleashed a 30-yard rocket into the upper right netting. The tally was the seventh of the season for Raymer, while the assist was Krentz's team-leading eighth of the year.

Mizzou's offense came out firing to start the second half but it was the Razorbacks who found the back of the net. In the 59th minute, Arkansas' Ashleigh Ellenwood gathered a loose ball in the box and sent a shot past the diving arms of redshirt sophomore goalkeeper McKenzie Sauerwein for a 1-1 game.

Both teams had chances as the second half progressed but Ellenwood struck again in the 86th minute to give the Razorbacks a 2-1 advantage with less than five minutes left in regulation. Ellenwood one-timed a cross from Allie Chandler and blasted a shot that eluded Sauerwein.

In the final minutes, Mizzou's offense peppered the Arkansas defense with shots but could not manage to tie the game. Senior Jessica Greer blasted a shot from the top of the box with under four minutes left but her attempt sailed just left of the goal. In the final minute junior Brooke Williams and sophomore Taylor Grant had excellent looks but their shots sailed just over the crossbar.

The Tigers outshot the Razorbacks 27-13 in the game and had a 11-5 edge in corner kicks.

Sauerwein made three saves in goal.

Missouri closes out the home portion of its regular season schedule on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. in the Play for Pink game. Following the contest, Missouri will honor the senior class from their contributions to the program.
