May 22, 2011 - Columbia Regional Game 7
Missouri Game Notes
- Missouri won its fourth consecutive NCAA Regional crown and third straight at University Field. The Tigers will face Washington (in Columbia) in next week's NCAA Super Regional. Date and time for those games have yet to be determined.
- Missouri improved to 50-8 on the season and recorded its third consecutive 50-win campaign.
- The 50 wins are the second most in school history. Last season's club won 51 games and the 2009 squad won 50 as well. Missouri has reached the Women's College World Series each season it has won at least 50 games.
- Missouri responded brilliantly following an extra-innings loss to DePaul on Saturday, winning three consecutive games (including two vs. DePaul on Sunday) to claim the regional title.
- With those three consecutive wins the Tigers improved to 27-2 at home this season.
- The Tigers are now 13-2 over their last 15 games and 23-3 over their past 26 outings since April 3.
- In postseason games at home Missouri is 12-1 the past three seasons, including a 2-0 mark in the 2010 NCAA Super Regional.
- Chelsea Thomas earned the win to improve to 29-6 on the season. The 29 wins are third all-time in a single season, three off the school record 32 wins by Teresa Wilson in 1982. She also has 57 career victories, which ranks eighth.
- Thomas struck out four batters and has a school record 342 K's this season.
- Thomas enjoyed her fifth no-hitter of the season in the win. She also has eight career no-no's... both marks are school records. She was perfect through 4.2 innings before issuing a two-out walk.
- Rhea Taylor added another multi-hit game to her resume on Sunday. She now leads the club with 68 hits, including a three-hit performance in the title-clincher.
- Taylor has recorded 10 hits in her last 12 plate appearances for the Tigers.
- On Sunday the senior had two home runs and six total RBIs. She entered postseason play with just two home runs and nine RBIs throughout the entire season. She drove in seven total runs during the regional.
- Ashley Fleming hit her fourth home run of the last eight games and team-leading 14th of the season to give Missouri a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The 14 blasts are the eighth most in school single-season history and her 27 career homers are fifth all-time. It was also her second home run of the regional.
- The two-run blast pushed her season RBI total to 60, which is third in school history. She is just four RBI off the school record pace set by Mary Babb in 1995.
- Missouri has had a number of big offensive innings in this weekend's regional. Thanks to that two-run round-tripper by Fleming (a three-run frame in the fifth and two more in the sixth), Missouri enjoyed nine multi-run innings in the Columbia Regional, including three innings of four runs or more.
- Missouri hit seven homers in the 2011 Columbia Regional and 65 total for the season. The 65 blasts are second all-time. The 2005 club hit a school record 82 homers.
- Missouri remained perfect on the base paths this weekend, finishing the Columbia Regional 14-of-14 in stolen base attempts.
