Tigers Fall Just Short of Kansas 4-3

Lawrence, Kan. - Friday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, Missouri faced Kansas and despite winning the doubles point lost a close Border Showdown matchup. The loss now has the Missouri Tigers at 10-8 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play.
Senior Kaitlyn Ritchie and sophomore Maria Christensen paired up in doubles to crush Jayhawks Erin Wilbert and Sara Lazarevic 8-3 at the No. 2 spot. Missouri players Jamie Mera and Rachel Stuhlmann helped snag the doubles point for Missouri after winning their doubles match in the tiebreaker 8-7 (7) against Paulina Los and Monica Pezzotti. Mallory Weber and Marlen Hacke fought but fell in doubles against No. 73 Ekaterina Morozova and Dylan Windom.
After Weber competed against No. 65 Morozova and fell 6-0, 6-2, which then tied the competition 1-1. Missouri regained the lead when Ritchie defeated Pezzotti quickly 6-0, 6-3. Missouri's Hacke fought hard but came up short against Wilbert of Kansas 6-4, 6-4 while Tigers' Mera dropped her first set 7-5 came back and won her second set 6-4 but was overcome 7-5 in her third set. Christensen of Missouri also fell in her third set 6-3 after winning her first 6-2 and losing her second set 6-2. Freshman Stuhlmann for the Tigers had success against Victoria Khanevskyaya when she dropped 4-6 in her first set and came back to win in her second and third sets 6-2, 6-1.
Missouri was just surpassed 4-3 against Kansas. The Tigers continue play against Kansas State on Sun., April 10. Missouri will face Texas Tech on Sun., April 17 at noon at home. Weather permitting play will be at Bethel.
