Des Moines, Iowa - The University of Missouri men's and women's track teams traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Drake Relays at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University. Athletes have to qualify to compete in the meet, which draws some of the best athletes from around the nation.
In the first day of competition for Mizzou, the team was well represented in the field events, but the highest placement of the day on the women's side came from the 4x800 meter relay team of sophomores Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) and Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Texas), freshman Landon Wachter (Jackson, Mo.) and junior Layne Moore (Emporia, Kan.), which took fifth overall with a time of 8:46.05.
Also competing for the women were sophomore Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo.), throwing 14.61m (47-11 ¼) in the shot put, freshman Hailey Twietmeyer (Cheney, Kan.) throwing 40.00m (131-03) in the javelin, sophomore Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) throwing 46.26m (151-09) in the discus and freshman Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) jumping 1.70m (5-7) in the high jump.
The men were led by senior Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.) who made the finals in the pole vault. Hancock finished third in the event with a vault of 5.15m (16-10 ¾). Also for the men, sophomore Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) threw 16.42m (53-10 ½) in the shot put and junior Asa Wyatt (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) threw 55.59m (182-04) in the javelin.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of sophomores Josh Scott and Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo.), freshman Tre Chambers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Mark Hughes (Center, Mo.) also had a good day clocking in at 40.90.
