Track Competes Well at Georgia

Athens, Ga. - The University of Missouri men's and women's track teams competed in a true duel track meet against the University of Georgia at Spec Towns Track in Athens, Ga on Saturday. Georgia won both the men's (111 to 81) and the women's (121 to 80) competitions. Despite coming up on the short end of the scoring column for the day, Mizzou had many excellent performances.

The men were led by two athletes with local ties to Georgia. In front of what was basically a home crowd, senior Chris Davis (Riverdale, Ga.) won the 400-meter hurdles with a personal record of 51.90. Davis also anchored a winning 4x400 relay team to a season best time of 3:10.63. Freshman Tre Chambers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also had friends and family from Georgia in the stands supporting him. Chambers did not disappoint, winning the 100-meter dash by a hundredth of a second in 10.56 and finishing a close second in the 200-meter dash with a 21.13.

Also on the track for the men, freshman Andy Schuckenbrock (Bowling Green, Mo.) had an exciting finish while winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.14. Schuckenbrock was in second the entire race and leaned hard at the finish to steal the win. Aaron Dixon was also a winner in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.79. Mizzou also had solid performances from sophomore Max Storms (Kansas City, Mo.) and junior Kevin McKee (Kansas City, Mo.) in the 3,000-meter run. Storms won the event with a time of 8:29.20 and McKee also scored for the team, placing fourth with a personal record time of 8:44.00.

Moving to the field events, freshman Jeremy Lampley (Ballwin, Mo.) and sophomore Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo,) had busy and successful days in the jumping events. Bounds won the long jump with a leap of 7.06m (23-02) while Lampley finished third with a jump of 6.80m (22-03 ¾). In the Lampley led the way finishing third with a personal record of 14.45m (47-05) while Bounds finished fourth with a jump of 12.68m (41-07 ¼).

In the throwing events, junior Asa Wyatt (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) continued a successful spring by finishing third with a throw 59.68m (195-10). Sophomore Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and freshman Alex McDonald (Wentzville, Mo.) led the way for the men in the shot put scoring points for Mizzou. Mosier led the way with a throw of 15.93m (52-03 ¼) while McDonald had a personal record throw of 15.03m (49-03 ¾).

The women were led by outstanding performances in the distance events. Sophomore Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) won the 1,500-meter run with a new personal record of 4:25.48 while junior Aimee Bonte (Fenton, Mo.) also scored in the event with a personal record time of 4:43.54. Roxberg's time puts her in the top ten in the Big 12. Sophomore Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Texas) led Mizzou in the 3,000-meter run by getting the win with a time of 9:41.02. Senior Kinsey Farren (Dallas, Texas) also scored for Mizzou in the event by placing third and running a personal record of 9:51.75, less than a second out of second.

Also on the track for the women, junior Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) continued her dominant spring by winning the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.44 and placing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a new personal record time of 14.47.

In the field events, the women racked up the most points in the discus. Sophomore Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) won the event with a throw of 49.21m (161-05). Also finishing in the top four for Mizzou were junior Katie Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) in third with a throw of 46.51m (152-07) and freshman Sandra Hampton (Lee's Summit, Mo.) in fourth with a throw of 44.58m (146-03). The women also took the second through fourth positions in the javelin. Freshman Hailey Twietmeyer (Cheney, Kan.) led Mizzou finishing second with a throw of 44.35m (145-06). Freshman Bethany Pfeiffer (Booneville, Mo.) finished third with a huge personal record throw of 43.08m (141-04) and Hampton finished fourth with a throw of 37.63m (123-05).

Also in the throws sophomore Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo.) led Mizzou in the shot put with a personal record throw of 15.07m (49-05 ½) for second. Sophomore Cortni Ervin (Marshall, Mo.) finished third with a throw of 14.26m (46-09 ½).

Moving to the jumps, senior Shawnte Middlebrook (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and freshman Erika Miller (Mexico, Mo.) both had personal records while scoring points for Mizzou in the triple jump. Middlebrook jumped 12.00m and Miller jumped 10.61m. Sophomore Heather Green (Jefferson City, Mo.) led Mizzou in the pole vault by finishing second with a vault of 3.66m (12-00). Junior Holly Stewart (Lee's Summit, Mo.) also scored for Mizzou by placing fourth and vaulting 3.40m (11-01 ¾).
