Tigers Finish First Day at Indiana

Bloomington, Ind. - The University of Missouri men's and women's track teams traveled to Indiana University to compete in a scored quad meet with Indiana University, Michigan State University and Indiana State University. The Tigers were led by many outstanding performances from both the men and the women. After the seven events scored today, the men sit in second with 64 points trailing leader Indiana by only three points. The women currently sit in third with 58 points behind Indiana (71 points) and Michigan State (64.50 points).

The men were led by exceptional performances in the throws events. Junior Asa Wyatt (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) got the evening started with a win in the men's javelin throw, throwing 51.94m (170-05). Senior Chris Holly (Topeka, Kan.) was also a winner for the Tigers, taking first in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.60m (198-10).

Leading the men on the track was sophomore Max Storms (Kansas City, Mo.) who won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:44.11. Fellow Tiger sophomore Tyler Compton (Buffalo, Mo.) placed third in the event with a personal record time of 14:52.95. Junior Kevin McKee (Kansas City, Mo.) placed sixth in the event with a personal record of 15:02.86.

Also on the track for the Tigers, senior Chris Davis (Riverdale, Ga.) and junior Kellyn Fogarty (Marshalltown, Iowa) had huge days finishing third and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with personal record times of 51.35 and 52.58, respectively. The men's 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo.), senior Mark Hughes (Center, Mo.), freshman Tre Chambers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman Josh Scott placed second with a time of 41.76

In the pole vault, freshman Kyle Wessel (Hannibal, Mo.) continued to impress, finishing in a tie for second with a vault of 4.85m (15-11).

The women were also led by big days from the throwers. Three Mizzou freshmen took the top three places in the javelin. The Tigers were led by the meet record performance of Haley Twietmeyer (Cheney, Kan.). Twietmeyer threw 44.70m (146-08). Bethany Pfeiffer (Booneville, Mo.) followed with a personal record throw of 35.24m (115-07). In third for the Tigers was Sandra Hampton (Lee's Summit, Mo.) who threw 33.51m (109-11). Taking sixth was sophomore Kelcy Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) with a personal record throw of 30.68m (100-08).

The women also picked up some points in the hammer throw. Junior Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.) placed fifth with a throw of 51.90m (170-03). Coil was followed by teammates sophomores Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo), placing sixth and seventh with throws of 50.49m (165-08) and 50.48m (165-07), respectively.

On the track, junior Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) led the women, getting her second win in two weeks in the 400m-hurdles with a time of 1:01.22.

Also on the track, sophomore, Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Texas) ran a new personal record in the 1,500-meter run with a 4:32.13, which was good for fourth. Sophomore Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) followed her with a 4:34.91 in fifth place.
