Missouri Resumes Competition on Day Two

Austin, Tex.-- After a successful first night of finals competition, the Tigers will begin prelims 10:00 am Thursday morning at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. 

Stephanie Rovig, Leah Cowperthwaite, and Ashley Paterson will all compete for spots in the women's 500 free final, while Vito Cammisano, John Hunt, Ethan Rose, Spenser Lauver, Jeff Hendricks, and Eric Blue will swim in the same event for the men's team.

 

Melissa Jamerson, Mary Sheahen, Nathalia Mello, Emy DiBenigno, Dominique Bouchard, Lauren Lavigna, Morgan McCleery, Rachel Ripley, Anastasia Sotiropoulos, Francie Szostak, and Amanda Masters will compete for 200 IM finals spots, joined by Colin Livasy, Jason King, Scott Martin, Yaniv Shnaider, John Higgins and Jowan Qupty on the men's side.

 

In the 50 free, Courtney Rhodenbaugh, Lauren Mason, Caitlin Connor, Cassie Cunningham, Sydney Schaefer, Lisa Nathanson, and Brigette Selbert will compete for a finals spot, while Michael Lopresti, David Dorak, Jordan Hawley, Joe Hladik, Roko Simunic, Mark Conroy, Jonathon Benson, Michael Beck, John Krause, Anders Melin, Adam Abernathy, and Blas Yslas will swim for the men.

 

"We had a lot of really fast, exciting swims last night," head coach Greg Rhodenbaugh said. "We've got another relay in tonight's session, and a lot of opportunities to try to make NCAA cuts and break school records today, so it's going to be a lot of fun."

 

Last Time Out


In last night's competition, the first finals of the Big 12 Championships, the Tigers performed well and set several school records.

 

Dante Jones placed second in the 1 meter competition (6 dives), and his score of 404.10 is the best score in Missouri history in the event. The top spot was previously held by Greg DeStephen, who scored 394.55 in 2010.

 

The men's 200 medley relay team of Roko Simunic, Mark Conroy, Anders Melin, and Jordan Hawley not only took second in the competition, but also first in the Missouri record books. Their time of 1:26.58 is the fastest in Missouri history. The previous record was 1:27.28, set in 2010 by Jan Konarzewski, Michael Lopresti, Anders Melin and Jordan Hawley

 

The men's 800 free relay team of Scott Martin, Spenser Lauver, Ryan Sellers, and Ethan Rose also claimed the sixth spot all-time in Mizzou history.

 

On the women's side, both the 200 medley relay team of Cassie Cunningham, Amanda Masters, Emy DiBenigno and Lisa Nathanson (1:39.97) and the 800 free relay team of Stephanie Rovig, Francie Szostak, Dominique Bouchard and Lauren Lavigna (7:10.02) stand second all-time in Missouri history.
