No. 7 Tigers Fall to Huskers, 17-16

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 7 Missouri Tigers saw their five-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday, as the No. 16 Nebraska Cornhuskers upended Mizzou by a 17-16 final in their Big 12 Conference opener. Missouri is now 14-6 on the year and 0-1 in league competition.

Alan Waters won his 35th match of the year to open the day's action, scoring a 5-3 decision on David Klingsheim. Waters picked up a first period takedown and a reversal in the second after starting down to go with 1:12 of riding time.

Nebraska picked up a win at 133 to even things up, but senior Todd Schavrien scored his eighth major decision of the season to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead. With a takedown in the first and a reversal in the second, Schavrien took a 4-0 lead into the third period. From there, the Poway, Calif., native picked up two takedowns and a two-point near fall at the buzzer, along with 3:12 of riding time, to secure the win. Schavrien has now scored bonus points in six of his last eight matches.

At 149, redshirt freshman Kyle Bradley extended the Mizzou lead with a sudden victory win, edging Ross Grande by an 8-6 final. Bradley held a 4-2 lead into the final period, but Grande scored two takedowns with under a minute left to send things to overtime. However, 24 seconds into sudden victory, Bradley picked up the takedown and the victory for the Tigers.

Nebraska took their first lead of the day after getting a decision at 157 and a technical fall at 165 to jump ahead 11-10.

Junior Dorian Henderson put the Tigers back on top with a 4-2 decision at 174, as he scored a first period takedown and an escape in the second while racking up 1:45 of riding time. However, the Huskers took control of the match with back-to-back decisions at 184 and 197, extending their lead to 17-13.

Dom Bradley knocked off No. 11 Tucker Lane at heavyweight for his 20th win of the year, edging the Huskers by a 5-4 decision. Tied up 2-2 after the second period, Bradley escaped in nine seconds and then added another point when Lane was hit with his second stall warning. Lane tied it up with a takedown with 40 seconds left in the match, but Bradley worked another escape to secure the victory.

Missouri returns to action next weekend when they'll face both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. The Tigers and Cowboys will face off at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 4 in Stillwater, with the Tigers then traveling to Norman to face the Sooners on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
