LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Mizzou track and field team dropped a highly competitive dual meet to the archrival Kansas Jayhawks on Friday afternoon (Jan. 14) at Bill Easton Track. The men's competition came down to the 4x400m relay as the two teams were tied at 86 heading into the event. But KU won the race to take the men's team title, 91-88. The Tiger women, despite strong efforts from several performers fell, 99-82.

Mizzou opened the day in dominating fashion as the Tiger women swept the first four spots in the weight throw while the men took the top two spots in the long jump. Freshman Kearsten Peoples (Ottawa, Kan.) returned to her home state and had quite the performance as she claimed the event title at 18.49m (60-8). Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.) finished second while Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Cortni Ervin (Marshall, Mo.) rounded out the top four in the competition.

The Tiger men also had a good showing in the weight throw, highlighted by senior Chris Holly (Topeka, Kan.), who placed second after tossing a season-best mark of 18.40m (60-4 ½). He led almost the entire competition, but KU's All-American Mason Finley passed him on his sixth attempt. All-Big 12 hammer thrower Jacob Bullinger (Jackson, Mo.) placed fourth in the weight throw at 17.08m (56-0 ½).

The women continued the good day in the throws during the shot put as sophomore Katie Evans (Powersville, Mo.) won the event with a throw of 14.65m (48-0 ¾) while Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo.) placed second at 13.96m (45-9 ¾). Freshman Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished second in the event with a jump of 1.65m (5-5), completing the Mizzou sweep. Freshman Tim Williams (Waynesville, Mo.) was the top high jumper for the men as he placed third with a clearance of 2.00m (6-6 ¾).
