Tigers Topped by No. 19 Longhorns, 6-1

Columbia, Mo. - Junior Kaitlyn Ritchie brought the Missouri women's tennis team its sole point of the evening as the Tigers fell to Texas (14-4, 9-1 Big 12), 6-1, at the Green Tennis Center. The loss drops Missouri to 6-15, 1-9 Big 12.
The contest started with doubles matchups where senior Kristen Bleakley and freshman Andrea Lewis were looking for their third-straight doubles win. Sarah Lancaster and Caroline Larsson ultimately snapped their streak at the No. 3 position, taking an 8-2 victory. Ritchie and junior partner Mallory Weber were defeated by No. 51 Vanja Corovic and Aeriel Ellis, 8-2. The Tiger duo falls to 5-5 in conference. Senior Sofia Ayala and sophomore Jamie Mera fell to Texas' Amanada Craddock and Krista Damico, 8-5 at No. 2.
In singles action, Ritchie claimed the only Tiger victory of the day. The No. 1 singles position saw Ritchie outlast No. 23 Ellis in two close sets, 7-5, 7-6 (6). Weber battled No. 56 Damico, dropping the first set 2-6, but forcing the match to a third set upon claiming the second, 2-6. However, it was Damico that outlasted Weber earning the win, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.
"Texas is a great team, but we really put in work out there today. We had a win at one, a split at two, and our chances were there at three and four. All of us played really well today, and I hope to see more of that on Sunday (against Texas A&M)," said Head Coach Blake Starkey. "We got off to a slow start today, but we played some of our most solid singles. I'm really proud of Kaitlyn and the season that she is putting together."
The Missouri women's tennis team will return to the court for their final match of the regular season on Sunday April 25, taking on No. 23 Texas A&M at the green Tennis Center at noon. Sunday will mark seniors Kristen Bleakley and Sofia Ayala's last regular season match of their Missouri careers, and they will be honored prior to the match's start.
