
Tigers Wrap up Day One at Tom Botts

Day One
COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou track and field program completed day one at the Tom Botts Invitational on Friday (April 2) despite the majority of the events being postponed until Saturday due to inclement weather. However, the Tigers did compete in the 3,000m steeplechase, the men's long jump and discus and the women's shot put. After day one, the Tiger women lead the scored meet with 39 points while the men stand in third overall with 28 points.
The top performance for the Tigers was turned in by freshman Bailey Belvis (Prosper, Texas) as she won the women's steeplechase with a time of 11:14.38 to score 11 points for the Tiger women in the overall team competition. In fact, the Tiger women claimed the top three spots in the event as Megan Kowalik (Florissant, Mo.) and Aimee Bonte (Fenton, Mo.) finished second and third with times of 11:24.14 and 11:34.25, respectively.
A fellow freshman, Katie Evans (Powersville, Mo.) also put together a fine performance for the Tiger women as she claimed the shot put title with a toss of 14.30m (46-11), despite adverse conditions. Teammate Katie Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) finished third in the event with a throw of 13.75m (45-1 ½) as the two combined to score 19 points for the Tiger women.
The men were able to finish the discus and the long jump before Mother Nature took over on Friday. Another freshman - Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) - shined for the Tigers in the discus as he placed second in the event after measuring in at 49.26m (161-7). Tim Opfer (Higginsville, Mo.) and Andy Oaker (Steelville, Mo.) finished third and fourth, respectively, in the event.
Evan Scott (Oak Park, Ill.) was the Tigers' top finisher in the men's long jump at 6.05m (19-10 ¼) while teammate Marcus Ferguson (Waynesville, Mo.) finished just behind him with a leap of 5.98m (19-7 ½). Also, freshman Pat Donnelly (Philadelphia, Penn.) was the Tigers' top finisher in the 3,000m steeplechase on the men's side at 10:13.42.
