
Track Wraps Up Day One at Meyo

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Mizzou track and field program wrapped up day one at the 23rd Annual Meyo Invitational on Friday (Feb. 5) as several Tigers turned in quality performances at one of the nation's most prestigious indoor meets. Junior sprinter Ryan Blackwell (Fenton, Mo.) had one of the top performances of the day for the Tigers as he finished second overall in the 500m dash with a time of 1:03.28. The field included 33 different runners and the Tiger captain finished less than half a second out of first place in the event.
The Tiger women saw plenty of success in the 1,000m run as well, highlighted by Layne Moore (Emporia, Kan.) and Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.), who both finished in the event's top six spots. Moore placed fourth overall with a time of 2:52.14 while Roxberg clocked in at 2:52.49 to place sixth. Esther Vermue (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) finished 13th in the event with a time of 2:55.23 as well. Tyrell Everett (Wichita, Kan.) was the men's top athlete in the event, running to a 15th-place finish with a time of 2:28.25.
The Tigers continued to see success on the track in the men's 300m dash as three Tigers placed in the top 15 of the 43-athlete field. Clifton Leake (Dallas, Texas) clocked in at 34.81 to place fourth while teammate Jerron Forte (Kansas City, Mo.) finished in ninth with a 35.01 clocking. Matt Pickerel (Columbia, Mo.) was paced at 35.44, earning him 15th overall.
Kinsey Farren (Dallas, Texas) and Phillip King (Columbia, Mo.) became the first two Tigers to compete in the 5,000m run during the indoor season after running on Friday. Farren ran to a 12th-place finish in the event after clocking in at 17:32.18 while King ran to a time of 15:23.98.
In the field events, senior captain Lana Mims (Tulsa, Okla.) highlighted the performances on the women's side after earning sixth overall in the long jump amongst a field of 59 athletes. Mims set a new indoor personal-best mark after leaping 5.98m (19-7 ½). Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.), Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Cortni Ervin (Marshall, Mo.) had fine performances in the women's weight throw as well as all three finished in the top half of the 47-athlete field. Coil threw 16.41m (53-10 ¼) to place 14th while Collins and Ervin placed 17th and 23rd, respectively, with throws of 16.18m (53-1) and 15.24m (50-0).
